Looking after Persian Rugs

If you carefully look after your Persian rug, it will last for a long
time. The two main culprits of wear on your rug is dampness and moths.
Of course, this is in addition to the normal wear and tear. In order to
avoid dampness, you will want to give your Persian rug regular exposure
to sunlight and air. If your rug has to be put in storage, then you
should inspect it regularly for dampness.
What are some ways that you can take care of your Persian rugs and
other rugs?
- You should rotate your rug on a regular basis. This means moving
your rug from sunny parts of the room to other parts of the room and
vice versa. If the rug is given too much exposure to sunlight, this
can cause damage to the dyed fabric in the rug.
- Use padding to protect your rug. This is especially important in
high traffic areas. The use of a high quality pad can double the
lifetime of your rug.
- When hanging your rug on the wall, make sure you do it properly.
Make sure that you don't use nails or other rough hangers to hang
the rug for a long time.
- Make sure that you store your rug properly. It is recommended
that you don't use a plastic bag that is airtight. Instead you
should use a cloth to warp the rug. Also, make sure you don't store
your rugs in a damp or humid area. Do not store it in a room that is
not properly ventilated. This will cause unwanted mildew.
- Safeguard your Persian rug against moths. These insects can be
very damaging to your rug. It is recommended that you use a moth
spray on your rug once every six months. Make sure you spray both
the front and back.
- Make sure you clean your rug on a regular basis.
There are a number of things you can do to take care of your Persian
rug. Remember your rug is actually an investment so take care of it and
it will last for a lifetime. |
